Shri Nathji suspected that someone was poisoning both, him and Priya Nath. His prime suspect was Chandan Singh – who, it was later discovered, had formed associations with notorious characters in the colony, and was an inveterate drunkard.“I must get up and start walking around so that these servants do not become so bold!”Shri Nathji had always cautioned Priya Nath against being too trusting and had said:“Priyaji aaj kal zamaanaa aisaa hai ke har ek par shak ki nazar rakhni chahiye!“Priyaji, the world has become so bad these days that one must look upon everyone with suspicion.”Shri Nathji had not forgotten his birth as Lord Rama and would often say:“Agar Sitaji ne uss vakt Ravana par shak kar liyaa hotaa to itnee takleef men naa parrteen! Ravana kaa Sadhu ke vesh men aanaa bataataa hai ke kissee ki baahar ki baton men naheen aanaa chahiye! Vaise to Ravana saare sadhu mahatmaaon par kalank lagaa gayaa!“If only Sitaji had looked upon Ravana with suspicion she would not have had to endure such suffering. The coming of Ravana in the guise of a sadhu shows that one must never be deceived by outer appearances. In fact, Ravana has cast a shadow of doubt on all the sadhus and mahatmas!”
