O Lord, a countless, countless thanks for a night and morning well passed. It is now 3:30 am Saturday afternoon. Pitaji is sitting in His armchair in the big room, talking to Mangla who has brought two additional foam rubber cushions for the armchair, in the big room because of the discomfort and ache Shri Nathji has in His seat.“Piyaji, old age is a curse!”And truly had He quoted Lord Buddha’s saying frequently:“Decay is inherent in all compounded things, hence work out your salvation energetically!”Shri Nathji had frequently said to me:“Piyaji iss burraape men aap hee ne mujhe samhaal liya. Kitni takleef detaa hoon main aapko.“Piyaji it is only you who could have cared for me so much in my old age. What a burden I have become on you!”I would rush to His bed and embrace Him and cry whenever He would say such words. I would tell Him:“Hamaari vajah se aapko itni takleefen hoti hain. Har vakt larrte raihte hain. Kuchh bhee naheen dekh bhaal kar sakte.“It is I who bring all these troubles upon you. I quarrel with you all the time. I cannot even look after you as I should.”And He would say in His loving voice:“Larrte kahaan ho! Vo to aapkaa pyaar hotaa hai! Itnee to din raat dekh bhaal karte ho. Koyi naheen karta apne boorre maa-baap ki itni sevaa, jitna dhyaan aap chaubis ghante meraa rakhte hain. Hamen sharm aati hai – kaise kaise kaam aap itne barre“You never quarrel – it is only your Love. You take care of me so much, day and night. No one would care so much for his aged parents, 24 hours of the day as you care for me. It fills me with sadness that you have to do so many things for me, being a Harvard Scholar.”Pitaji was referring to the collection of the urine and the cleaning of the room commode which I did with my own hands. I considered myself fortunate that I had been given the privilege of serving him. It was something even a hired nurse would have done.
