Dr. (Col) Mathur arrives for Shri Nathji’s darshan along with another Colonel friend of his – an ophthalmologist from Poona. Shri Nathji speaks to both of them from his bed:“When I was at Jabalpur a General came for my darshan at the house of Chief Justice where I was staying. He could not get an opportunity to be close to me, but the chance came later at Allahabad, when he came to my residence and sat close to me and listened to my words. His eyes closed and tears flowed down his cheeks. “General Sahib,“’General Sahib, you can face Atom and Hydrogen Bombs but you have not been able to face the Divine Touch!’“Even as he was about to leave, I asked Him: ‘General ‘General Sahib, “‘General Sahib, is there Air inside the room? How is it that you forgot to count the very air which is keeping you alive and making you count everything else?’“Huzoor, vo dikhti naheen thhee,”“And I said: ‘General Sahib yaad rakhna, jaise ye havaa hamenshaa aapke saath hai magar dikhtee naheen, ussi tarah jab aap yahaan se chale jaayenge mere aasheervad aapke saath rahenge! Vo dikhne men naheen aayenge, magar vakt par kaam aate rahenge!‘General Sahib, remember–even as this air is always around you but you cannot see it, in a like manner my blessings will always remain with you in an invisible form and be of use to you whenever you need them!’“As the General took my shoes and put them on my feet, a friend of his, who had accompanied the General, called out to him saying:‘General ‘General Sahib, are you going to usurp everything! Let me tie the shoelaces at least! Let me do this much of a service!”Priya Nath recollected that the General had come for Shri Nathji’s“I admire Army men for their sense of discipline and their resignation to face the inevitable–death.”Shri Nathji had always said about Army men: “Inn se do cheezen seekhni hain“Two things must be learnt from them–obedience and discipline!”Both, Shri Nathji and Priya Nath, are quite relieved after Dr. Mathur’s visit, and Priya Nath has tears in his eyes that his beloved Pitiji will be able to walk again soon.
