Priya Nath met Khushwant Singh in April 1993 as he wanted him to write something more about Shri Nathji after His going. Khushwant Singh welcomed Priya Nath at his apartment at Sujjan Singh Park, which was still heavily guarded by Security men.“Too hee batlaa duaae dil ko lekar ham kahaan jaayen,“Tell us, Thou, where we must go with the prayer of our hearts,Shri Nathji had placed this query of man before God, in His own words, as one pleading before His Own Divine Form on behalf of the devotees.“Wah! WahPriya Nath told Khushwant Singh of the meeting between Shri Nathji and Sir Abdul Qadar, the High Court Judge at Lahore, in the 1930’s when Shri Nathji had said to the Judge:“Sir Abdul Qadar! Insaan zindagi ka mazaa naheen letaa. Jab tak jeetaa hai maut se dartaa hai – jeene kaa mazaa gayaa. Aur jab marne lagtaa hai to jeene ki khwaahish kartaa hai,– marne kaa bhee mazaa gayaa!“Sir Abdul Qadar! Man does not enjoy life. For as long as he is living he is afraid of death – so the joy of living is gone. And when he is dying he wishes to live – so the joy of dying is also gone!”The Judge was startled and asked Shri Nathji:“You are right, Sir! But what then is the way out?And Shri Nathji said:“Sir Abdul Qadar! Zindagi ek usskaa hukam hai jo hamen duniyaan men le aataa hai. Aur maut usskaa doosraa hukam, jo hamen iss duniyaan se le jaataa hai. “Sir Abdul Qadar! Life is an Order of God that brings us into the world, and Death is another Order of God that takes us away from the world. “Mussavvar khench laa tasveer vo jis men dikhayi ho,“O Artist, make thou such a picture which showsPriya Nath also said to Khushwant Singh that Shri Nathji had recited the following verse before him in 1988:“Rindon ki talab par Saakiye kausar ko bhee josh aayaa“The Saaki was so filled with joy at the sight of his Seekers Khushwant Singh noted this couplet down, especially, in his diary.“Perhaps during your last meeting with Shri Nathji, a part of your share was left behind. I have now brought it for you.”And Priya Nath recited another verse Shri Nathji often used:“Rooh kis rind ki pyaasi gayi maikhaane se“Which thirsty soul left the Tavern unsatiated,Priya Nath described his own mission in life with another of Shri Nathji’s verses:“Ham to zindaa hain ke duniya men teraa naam rahe,“I live in this world so that Thy name be made known,Priya Nath gave Khushwant Singh another portrait of Shri Nathji and asked him to write more about Him. “YOU ARE NOW CARRYING THE TORCH!”He asked Priya Nath to send him his (Priya Nath’s) photograph as well.KHUSHWANT SINGH’S ARTICLEFour years ago I was persuaded to pay a courtesy call on Shri Bhola Nathji, founder of the World Prayer Movement and regarded by his followers as the Kalki Avatar. Being an agnostic I approached him with a certain amount of scepticism. But no sooner he embraced me lying in bed, my resistance collapsed.Rindon ki talab par Saakiye Kausar ko bhee josh aayaaWhen thirsting sinners asked for the wine of truthI was overwhelmed by the torrent of Persian, Urdu and Hindi poetry that poured out of his lips. When he died six months ago, I wondered if I would see another like him. Ham to zindaa hain keh duniyaan men teraa naam raheWe live to see that your Name lives for ever
