On January 21, 1986, Shri Babaji’s Birthday is celebrated with great enthusiasm. Shri Nathji remains in bed and lectures from there to the assembled group outside. Even the ‘qawwaals’ are there, singing spirited qawwaalis in the ‘shaamiaanaa’ erected in the lawn. The 100 odd persons gathered together sit in the lawn outside the bedroom windows of Shri Nathji. They can see Shri Nathji reclining on his bed whenever they stand up. They file past the window, bowing their heads before Shri Nathji.Meri mushkil men aate ho mere mushkil kushaa tum hoThou come in my sorrow, thou, the remover of my sorrowsThe divine light on Shri Nathji’s face was too powerful to behold. All those who obtained his darshan from the window were at once taken to the gates of Heaven. It was indeed a glimpse of God in all His Glory.“I have found real spirituality only in Shri Nathji’s darbaar. This is real Fakeeree–real renunciation. There is Shri Nathji sitting within closed doors and closed windows with dust gathering on the two cars standing in the driveway. It appears as if no one is living in the house, and yet if you go within you find such a great Shri Nathji speaks of the qawwaals and says:“Ye sirf qawwaal hee ki haisiyat se naheen aate balke inko itkaad bhee hai!And then while Shri Nathji and Priya Nath finish their tea inside the bedroom Shri Nathji asks the qawwaals also to have tea: “Chaaye peejiye!”Priya Nath plays the very exhilarating ghazal which he had recorded earlier in January:“Zamaanaa aayaa hai raahaton kaa nazar men sab ke vo yaar hogaa“This is the time for happiness, the Eternal Friend shall be before the eyes of all,Priya Nath had put the ghazal to music on the piano and the tune is so lilting that Shri Nathji claps his hands along with the rhythm for a few seconds. “Jhuktaa hai ye zamaanaa, Baba teri gali menThe world bows, O Baba, in thy lane,And then there is the full-throated qawwaali that has people swaying with joy and coming to Shri Nathji’s window, waving notes around it and giving them to the qawwaals. Some of the devotees give the notes to Priya Nath so that he can wave them around Shri Nathji’s head before they are given to the qawwaal. “Nath-Baba ka mujh pe karam hee karam“My Nath has showered His Benevolence upon me,The qawwaals also sing Shri Babaji’s Birthday Song, which had been given to them by Priya Nath:“Mubaarik janam din Baba ka ho saare zamaanon koThe camera man was very good. He focused on Shri Nathji’s face several times and shot many close ups which were very, very royal and majestic and awesome, and which brought out the absolute beauty of Shri Nathji in a very striking way.
