Shri Nathji had bought an Alsatian pup for the boys at Mussoorie, who had been bringing it up over the past few months. The pup had grown up thinking of Shri Nathji’s family as his own. Shri Nathji had fed it with his own hands, as had the boys, but the one who fed it most and cared for it all day long was Mateshwari.
The pup was named Tiger. He had grown very fond of Mateshwari and always followed her around from room to room and wherever she went in the open outside. Tiger had come with them when they came down to Malik Nagar and the boys could be seen running around with the dog in the fields and open spaces that bordered Nand Kishore’s house.
