To outer appearances it was as if Priya Nath were looking after Shri Nathji, but Priya Nath knew full well that it was Shri Nathji who was looking after him spiritually as well as materially and physically. “There is nothing to worry about. “Priyaji, yaad rakhnaa main jitnaa aapkaa hitaishi hoon duniyaa men koyi naheen hai! “Priyaji, remember no one in the world can be a greater well-wisher of yours then myself!”These were the precious moments of life that were passing by and which were never to return. “Kokhlaa chappaati jumme raat aayi haiAnd there would be moments when Shri Nathji would also get up and run around in circles–at his age! All just to please the children. “Ye bataakh mujhe de do!There were so many, many memories of his life with Shri Nathji that Priya Nath began to worry that he would one day forget them, and that he was already beginning to forget many of them.“Today Shri Nathji left the world.” This in fact did happen on the 6th of September 1992. “Aap hee ki to itnee dekhbhaal se ham itne saal tak jee liye. Babaji kaa to tehattar saal ki umar men shareer chhoot gayaa thhaa. Mujhe yaad hai R.R.Khanna ne kahaa thhaa ke agar Babaji ki dekhbhaal aur acchhi hoti to vo zyaadaa raih sakte thhe. Aap jaisi meri dekh bhaal kaun kar saktaa hai! Aapne to sab kuchh mere liye chhorr diyaa!”“It is due to the great care you have been taking of me that I have lived for so long. Babaji left his physical body at the age of seventy-three. I remember how R.R.Khanna said to me that Babaji might have lived longer if only he had been better cared for. Who in the world can care more for me than you? You have sacrificed your whole life for my well-being.”Priya Nath knew that if it had not been for him, the devotees would have simply let Shri Nathji wither away. He knew that the devotees came to him, not to look after him, but rather for the peace and happiness that they got from him.“Prabhuji to pyaar kaa saagar thhe hee, magar Priyaji men to unse bhee zyaadaa mithhaas hai!“Prabhuji is an ocean of love, but Priyaji has even greater sweetness in him!”Anil Kapoor, the friend of Priya Nath would often say to Priya Nath: “I have never seen a son serve his father in the manner in which you serve Shri Nathji. You are the Shravana Kumar of this age!”“Priyaji kitnaa bhee mujh se kyon naa larren magar aakhir men vohi karte hain jo meri ichhaa hoti hai!“No matter how much Priyaji may quarrel with me, in the end he always does that which I want!”Perhaps this was Shri Nathji’s way of showing to the world that he had given his sons complete independence and had not cowed them into blind submission to accept him as God.“Priyaji barre wise hain!“Priyaji mushkil kushaa hain“Priyaji removes all difficulties!”But Priya Nath knew of his own shortcomings, and, right up to the end, was convinced that he had not done everything that ought to have been done for Shri Nathji. Long after Shri Nathji had passed away in September 1992, Priya Nath carried this feeling with him, of an unworthy son to so Great a Father.“PITAJI IS THE GREATEST GIFT THAT GOD HAS GIVEN ME ON EARTH.”Priya Nath often wondered what he had done in his past birth to merit such a great Father–God Himself. He would recall how Mateshwari had told him that as a babe he had cried ever so frequently, as if painful memories of a past birth were haunting him.“Huzoor main aap daa Maajaa Gaamaa haan!Shri Nathji took great interest in Priya Nath’s abilities at humour and used to call him “the greatest humorist upon earth”.Shri Nathji would often tell people:“Inkaa“His humour was so greatly appreciated in America that he could have become a millionaire had he chosenthat line.”But the real humorist was Shri Nathji. What a joke it was on the world that the Creator had come into its midst and was living like any other mortal, subjecting his beautiful body to the torments of the cruel world.“Hinduon main to avataar kabhi“The Hindu avatars were never crucified. I am merely speaking of the past ages, about Christ.”There were even moments when, on seeing Priya Nath distraught, Shri Nathji would say:“I WILL CRUSH DOWN ANY ILLNESS OR FOE THAT COMES MY WAY. I MUST LIVE LONG FOR YOUR SAKE AND FOR THE SAKE OF BHAYYA!”Priya Nath derived immense comfort from these words. He knew that despite Shri Nathji’s immense humility and love, and compassion and innocence, Shri Nathji was the bravest person upon earth. “Khabardaar! And how Shri Nathji’s voice had paralyzed the group. “Jaa gaarad le aa!”“Go and bring your brigade!”And yet Shri Nathji was the gentlest person upon earth, ever conscious for the feelings of all who came to visit him. Whenever he would spend hours of his life-giving force speaking to any person or persons, he would always ask them afterwards:“Khushi milee aakar“Maine thhakaa diyaa hogaa aapko!Priya Nath, pessimist that he was, would often make sardonic remarks about some listeners not paying full attention or being too restless while Shri Nathji was speaking, which would dishearten Shri Nathji, who had poured out his life’s blood and sweat on them without asking for anything in return.
