Shri Gopal Kasera was to be seen frequently at Shri Nathji’s residence, washing utensils. Holding a small katori, in his hand, he would wipe the little cup clean, and say:
When I clean this katori of Shri Nathji even a little bit–like this, I derive the fruit of thousands of yagnaas, religious rites!
Gopal Kasera was the youngest of the Kasera brothers. He would occasionally reside with Shri Nathji to serve him. Once, at Allahabad, he wanted to bathe in the Ganges. Shri Nathji had warned him to not to go. But he went all the same. His brother, Shyam Lal, and a devotee of Shri Nathji, Mrs. Bhutt, were with him as they went over the waters in a little boat. Suddenly, Gopal Kasera fell into the river. His brother, Shyam Lal, reached out and caught his hand in his own. But the current of the waters was so swift that it carried him away.
Gopal Kasera regained consciousness only to find himself back in the boat. Someone had pulled him out of the waters. But who? There was no one else in sight. He recalled seeing the hand of Shri Nathji reaching out to him in the depths of the waters.
Later, Shri Nathji said to Gopal Kasera:
If you had drowned, of what use would your life have been? Now that it has been preserved, think of it as belonging to God. Do everything in life now, thinking it to be a task allotted to you by God!
