People would travel large distances to secure the special blessings of Shri Nathji on that day. There was the poor villager, Mannu Lal by name, who would come from the distant city of Sagar, now in Madhya Pradesh in Central India. He would set out several weeks in advance and walk all the way from Sagar to Mussoorie, a distance of hundreds of miles. His frail constitution was ill-suited to such a great physical effort, but he had the strength of Shri Nathji within him which carried him across the land.
Mannu Lal used to say:
A personality like Shri Nathji has never been born on this earth before. There was never anyone like him, there is no one like him and there shall never be anyone like him. People are welcome to worship Gods of their choice, but there is no God like mine!
He would travel the large distance only to be with Shri Nathji on his birthday.
On the 23rd of June, he would get up amidst a gathering of Rajas, Maharajas, Judges, lawyers, businessmen and intellectuals and recite poems he had composed especially for the occasion, as a homage to Shri Nathji’s divine beauty.
