In almost all of Shri Nathji’s sermons there was the beggar and King theme, which illustrated the relationship between man and God. Some important parables were as follows:
A beggar sat alone in the dark night. A procession, with lights and sounds, was coming his way. It was the King.
The beggar’s face wrung pity from the heart of the King. “Today,” thought the king to himself, “I shall make this man my minister!”
And as the beggar came close, he whispered as much in the beggar’s ears. The beggar began dancing with joy. The people thought he had gone mad. No one believed him. But, that very day, a host of courtiers arrived and took the beggar to the King’s court where he was made a minister through a formal ceremony.
The question arises:
When was the beggar made a minister? Was it when he was formally ordained as such in Court? Or was it when he was told as much by the King?
No. The beggar became a minister the moment such a thought entered the mind of the King!
Similarly, the destiny of man is changed when such a thought enters the mind of God. Man sees the fulfilment of such a destiny only later.
When a person meets the Avatar, or has faith in Him, his destiny is altered in a beautiful way without his being aware of it. As he comes into greater contact with the Avatar, this destiny is gradually revealed to him, and the day comes when the world becomes aware of this change as well.
