The second parable explained the significance of a promise – the eternal promise of God to people of all religions.
A beggar arrived at the gates of a King. The guards would not let him in, and so he cried out loudly to the King. The latter heard him from a balcony and took pity on him.
“O Beggar! I will fill thy bowl with diamonds and pearls! I promise thee!” said the King, and went inside.
The beggar showed his empty bowl to the people of the city and said with happiness:
“Look! It is filled with diamonds and pearls!”
Nobody believed him. But there was an irrepressible joy in his heart. The King had made a promise to him.
So it is with all religions, which rest upon the promise of God. They have faith that the promise shall be fulfilled.
