Priya Nath had been receiving an assistantship at Harvard but the amount was so small that he could hardly save any money. Priya Nath took up a summer teaching job at Harvard University, and borrowed some money from a Catholic friend of his at Harvard, Fergus E. Moore.
Fergus was a physics student at Harvard. He had saved some money for himself, to be used in the event of his falling suddenly ill. He suffered from muscular dystrophy, which had afflicted one of his legs and threatened to advance further. He was a Catholic by religion. On learning of Shri Nathji’s proposed visit, he immediately lent the money to Priya Nath. It was a gesture that Shri Nathji never forgot. It was also a wonder that Fergus’ disease did not progress further, and he led a near normal life in the years to come.
Later, when Priya Nath spoke to Dr. Kean on the phone, the latter asked him: Who sponsored your father’s visit?
I sponsored it myself! said Priya Nath, who was too proud to approach millionaires for financial assistance.
