At 7:30 am Wednesday morning there is Shri Nathji sitting up in bed, reading the Indian Express which Priya Nath gives Him. He is dressed in two white shirts and a canary yellow head kerchief and is looking “incredibly sweet” to Priya Nath. He had felt well practically all night and had dictated a beautiful ghazal to Priya Nath at 4:15 am in an exhilarated mood:“Tere aane se milaa hamko karaare zindagi“Your coming has brought peace into my life,Shri Nathji asks Priya Nath to put it to music and sing it on the piano the same day.“O Lord, a countless thanks to Thee for the Infinite Kindness of keeping Pitaji so well these days despite the heavy psychological strain of the ECG’s and my weeping and crying. The man from Dr. Navin Dang’s laboratory arrives to take the blood samples at 7:37 am. His name is Jacob, and he had come earlier also on behalf of Ashlok Hospital when Dr. Alok Chopra was treating Shri Nathji. “Aapke haathon se shubh ho – khoob aachhe“May your hands prove auspicious – and may you bring very good results!”Shri Nathji soon thereafter begins to read the newspaper, while Priya Nath prays and prays for a good result. Shri Nathji wonders whether the small plaster patch has been applied at the right place after the blood has been taken. Shri Nathji is silent as He reads the newspaper, and He says consolingly to Priya Nath:“Sab ttheek hogaa – achhee se bhee achhee“Everything will be all right. The report will be the best yet. When will he bring the report?”Priya Nath says: “And Shri Nathji says: “Shri Nathji says, as He reads the newspaper:“106 degree “The temperature has gone up to 106 degrees.”At 8.40 am Shri Nathji is quite well and sits up in bed, even as Priya Nath records:“O Lord, the greatest boon that Thou hast given us is His present good health. O Lord, a countless thanks to Thee.”Shri Nathji asks for his morning medicines.“O Lord! A strange feeling of Peace and exhilaration has become over me.” Even as Shri Nathji takes His medicines He says consolingly to Priya Nath:“Kabhi kabhi karaa lene chahiyen“Blood tests should be done every now and then.”Shri Nathji quotes His famous Persian verse:“Kushtgaanee khanjare tasleem raa,“For those who have died for Thee, O Lord,Priya Nath prays in his diary:“O Lord! Please give us a Urea of less than 40 and a Creatinine of less than 1.4! Please let the Alkaline and Acid Phosphatase be well within their normal limits.”The Urea and Creatinine would show the state of the Heart and Kidneys, and the Acid and Alkaline phosphatase would show whether there was any cancer in the blood or bones. The TLC and the DLC would show whether there was anny infection in the body.““Considering how good the health is, the report must turn out to be very good.”Shri Nathji lies back in bed – after a struggle with His clothes at weighing time, with the Holter Monitor strapped on. His weight is static at 41.25 and His output is 760 cc. Priya Nath decides to give Him a ¼ Lasix which Shri Nathji takes unhesitatingly, even though he ‘hates’ diuretics.
