Shri Nathji’s divine power was revealed to him by a novel experience. A musical night had been organised by a number of Maharajas at the Savoy Hotel, Mussoorie, in which medals were to be distributed to the best singers of the occasion. Professor Wali Mohammad had been invited to participate. A number of renowned singers of classical music sang before him in varied and interesting styles. Wali Mohammad was filled with apprehension that his singing would not come up to the standards or style set by these maestros. He was accomplished only in singing ghazals in light music style. It was a great embarrassment for him to have to sing after these exponents of classical music.
In his agony, he thought of Shri Nathji. He closed his eyes for a brief moment and prayed to Shri Nathji to save him from humiliation. And then it was his turn to sing. Even before he could begin, the organisers of the concert said to him: Professor Wali Mohammad, we have had enough of classical music for the evening–may we request you to sing us a ghazal?”
Professor Wali Mohammad heaved a sigh of relief. Shri Nathji had heard his prayer. A ghazal was infinitely simpler than the hard-core classical music, which the other singers had been displaying. His ghazal captured the hearts of the audience that night, for it carried within its notes the power of Shri Nathji. The gold medal for the musical night was awarded to him. Wali Muhammad rushed over to Shri Nathji’s house to narrate the incident and to thank him for his kindness in hearing his prayers.
It was an incident which Professor Wali Muhammad was very fond of narrating before Shri Nathji as well as before his friends and acquaintances, of the unique effect of Shri Nathji’s divine power and his blessings.
