There was a man of Australian origin, Robert by name, in Mussoorie, whose parents had left him behind in India in extreme poverty during the early days of the British.
He made a living by collecting old and discarded books from people, and then selling them to the local kabaari–junkman. Shri Nathji would be seen at the gate of Savitri Nivas talking to him freely, consoling him and giving him whatever old books and money he could give him.
Robert always said to Shri Nathji: “You are the kindest man I have ever met in my whole life. The minister at my church avoids me like the plague, and does not help me in any way.”
The man had a reputation of being a thief, but Shri Nathji embraced him with love every time that he came and felt sorry when he saw him in rags.
