A Hakeem, who was then head of the Tibbia College at Allahabad, came to see Shri Nathji when he was at Cavendish Hotel. The man had a very pure heart.
He was well versed in spiritual matters and said to Shri Nathji: “Every time a man goes into deep sleep he is in a state that is exactly like death. But what exactly is the secret of life and death no one knows. It is an ocean too vast to fathom.”
The moment Shri Nathji began speaking to the Hakeem, his heart and soul became attuned to him, and he began listening in rapt attention, absorbing every word that Shri Nathji said.
Hakeem Sahib,” Shri Nathji said, “is there anyone who can swim across the ocean?”
No, said the Hakeem, it would be beyond one’s strength!
Can anyone wait for the ocean to dry up all by itself? Shri Nathji asked again.
No, that is unthinkable! said the Hakeem.
Can a person, who has never seen the ocean before in his life, build a boat to cross the ocean? Shri Nathji asked again.
No, if the person is unfamiliar with the ocean, he cannot know how to build a boat to go across it! said the Hakeem.
All the possibilities have been eliminated, said Shri Nathji, but the laws of Nature that created the ocean, also gave rise to the creation of a ship that can go across it and carry others across. Such a ship is the Saviour of mankind!
