At 3:45 am Shri Nathji is awake and asking Priya Nath for another shirt, like a little child:“Ye kameez to kuchh naheen. Ek aur kameez oopar paihanne ke liye ho jaati – Mangla ko kaih do.“This shirt is nothing. It would be better if I had another shirt to wear over it – ask Mangla to bring it.”Priya Nath gets the shirt for Shri Nathji, who puts it on with Priya Nath’s help. Shri Nathji especially needs help in closing the buttons on the sleeves and the neck. He has become so much like a child that it breaks Priya Nath’s heart at times and makes him weep.“Piyaji, so jaate!“Piyaji, go to sleep!”Shri Nathji adds cryptically:“Aaj tak kapraa jalaa naheen thhaa.”“Never before had any of my clothes been burnt till now.”Shri Nathji is referring to the burnt white flannel pyjamas that carry the heating-iron mark of the washerman.“O Dear, Dear, Lord, please let Pitaji’s Heart be in Perfect condition with no arrythmia and no effort angina or otherwise.
