There was the person who, along with others, accompanied Shri Nathji on a walk around Camel’s Back Road, Mussoorie. He would walk most peculiarly. One instant he would be walking a step ahead of Shri Nathji, and the next instant he would be a step behind him.
What are you doing? he was asked.
There are moments when I become so overpowered with love, that I simply must see your face, so I have to walk ahead of you. And the moment I realise it is an impertinence, I retreat and begin walking behind you. It is a strange dilemma. You tell me, what must I do?
Shri Nathji laughed:
When love overpowers you, walk ahead of me, and when your brain overpowers you, then walk behind me.
“One must never be unnatural in devotion, but follow the dictates of the heart!” Shri Nathji would say while narrating this episode.
