Shri Nathji’s birthday on the 23rd of June 1962 was held in a relaxed atmosphere. There was none of the kind of hurry that had attended his birthdays when he was about to return to Allahabad.
Mateshwari’s song, “Prabhu mere sharan teri main aayaa”, had a special feeling to it. Her voice appeared to echo softly and melodiously in the verandah of Savitri Nivas, and from there into the vastness of the skies above and the stretching range of the Himalayas below.
This was a very special birthday. It was going to be the last birthday of Shri Nathji that Mateshwari was going to celebrate at her beloved residence at Savitri Nivas, Mussoorie.
This was to be her last song, sung with great love and feeling for her children upon earth, which she was going to sing from the verandah of Savitri Nivas. Mateshwari knew in her heart of hearts that she was destined to leave her home, Savitri Nivas, which was the abode of Savitri; and that in the years to come, she would be present there in her invisible form only.
Shri Ramesh Chandra had especially come from Allahabad for the occasion. He had written several times to Shri Nathji and prayed that Shri Nathji would return to Allahabad soon, as he could not live without him. Shri Nathji had become the mainstay of his existence and parting from Shri Nathji was like sinking into an abyss of the world from which there was no return.
Shri Nathji gave a powerful lecture at the Rialto on this occasion and Priya Nath made an attempt to film the occasion with his 8 mm camera, which had till that time been used in juvenile pursuits, forgetting the injunction of the man who sold the camera, and who had asked the boys to use it only for capturing Shri Nathji’s image.
Shri Nathji’s Divine Light flowed as brilliantly as ever on this 23rd of June–when he became exactly 60 years old. Anyone who looked at him would have said that he was not more than 30 years of age.
Shri Nathji had often said:
“Neither astrology nor the science of astronomy can decipher the star under which I was born. I am ageless. I existed before the beginning of every beginning. I am an old companion of yours. I was your companion even before the Universe was created. I have been born only to serve you. I am free from the bondage of the world, but shall always remain in bondage till the last man is set free.”
