Shri Nathji would explain the theme of good and evil in a beautiful way. He would say:
EVIL is spelled E-V-I-L in English. Now place the V before the E and what do you get? You get V-E-I-L, which is VEIL. Thus, Evil is a Veil between man and God. Now what does Evil say to man? Evil is like darkness.
“When man stumbles in darkness he seeks light spontaneously – in other words darkness becomes a teacher that forces man to seek light. When man finds no happiness in Evil he is forced to turn towards GOOD. Thus Evil becomes like a teacher which tells man to go towards GOOD.
“When man goes from Evil to GOOD he finds some happiness, but this is short lived. This is so, because when man becomes Good, he looks upon others as bad, and pride enters into him. His ego destroys his happiness. Ultimately he discovers that there is no satisfaction in being good unless he can give up his pride – ego- which is in reality like a zero-O. And when he realises his own nothingness and gives up his pride, he, in effect, removes his zero -O- from GOOD. And GOOD minus O = GOD. He thus goes from GOOD towards GOD!
