Just then the results of the M.Sc. examination came out at Allahabad University. Priya Nath had passed out in the first division. Shri Nathji and Mateshwari were overjoyed. Shri Nathji even sent a telegram to Pran Nath in London informing him of his brother’s success. Priya Nath now had a series of first class passes.
It had been a unique academic career for Priya Nath, blessed by Shri Nathji at each and every stage. He had stood first in all his school classes, in all the tests and final examinations; he had stood first in the F.Sc. examination; the B.Sc., examination, and now the M.Sc. Priya Nath knew that all these were miracles of Shri Nathji. He was coming first in a subject, science, which he disliked. He would much rather have given up science and taken to translating Shri Nathji’s books. It appeared to be the ambition of his heart.
However it was Mateshwari’s wish that he take to a professional career so that he could earn independently. She had seen the hardship that Shri Nathji had to endure when he depended upon his devotees for their sewa, which appeared to be grudgingly given and in a miserly way. It was also the ambition of Priya Nath to free Shri Nathji of the obligation of the devotees. He had seen the attitudes and betrayals of many of them, and he had wished to serve Shri Nathji all by himself, with his own earnings.
